Walks and hikes near Beacons View

Local walking routes in the Brecon Beacons

There are so many amazing walks and hikes around Mynydd Epynt, the Cambrian Mountains and the Brecon Beacons - all easily accessible during your stay at Beacons View. Here are a few of our favourites.

Walk the Epynt Way

This 65km long path around the wild and remote Epynt mountain range has been described as a modern trail in an ancient landscape. It is open to walkers, equestrians and mountain bikers and is well marked with frequent, yellow-topped marker posts which have green and white discs. Ask us how to join the path from the farm. Find out more.

Mynydd Illtyd

Walks on Mynydd Illtyd give the most amazing views of the Brecon Beacons mountains. Park at the Bannau Brycheiniog Visitor Centre, known locally as the Mountain Centre, (what3words: informer.nozzle.bombard) for easy access to a range of walks, plus cafe and shop.

Or for a short but stunning walk on Mynydd Illtyd up to a trig point that overlooks the whole of Brecon, use this location (what3words colder.habits.doctor) where you can park anywhere at the bottom and walk to the top of the hill, before heading on to the visitor centre for coffee and cake. If you wanted to make this short walk more eventful, the nearest farm has a business where you can walk alpacas up to the view point! It’s called “Alpaca my boots”.

Walk the Brecon and Monmouthshire canal

For an easy and more accessible walk, (easy for children and great if they have a bike) the canal towpath provides a beautiful walk. It’s thought to be one of the most scenic canals in the UK.

Park your car either at Theatre Brycheiniog at the canal basin (paid carpark), or next to Brecon Rugby Fields, a bit further down (what3words: sues.cashew.inherit) and you can park anywhere alongside the canal here for free.

You can walk along this canal as far as you want. There are pubs/cafes every few miles, including:
