Things to do

A few of our favourite things to do locally

The list is almost endless, but we’ve cherry picked a few of our favourite things to do locally to give you a starting point.

  • Walk to waterfalls, hill forts and castles, hike along mountain trails, canal towpaths and hidden valleys, the options are endless. Explore our suggestions for local hikes here.

  • Meet the animals at Cantref Adventure farm where there’s also a cafe, rides, soft play and more.

  • Try a spot of pony trekking in the hills: book via Llangorse activity centre or Cantref Adventure Farm.

  • Plan a day on the water: hire canoes from Wye Valley Canoes and explore the beautiful river Wye for a day. Take a picnic and make a day of it.

  • Take a wander with an alpaca while experiencing some of the best views of Brecon from on high.

  • Explore quirky finds at Brecon museums – visit Y Gaer for Brecon’s rich heritage and the Royal Welsh Museum to explore Brecon’s fascinating military history. Perfect for rainy days.

  • Mountain biking around the Beacons - explore trials close to Beacons View, or some of the famous exhilarating routes across the Beacons. Plenty of places to hire bikes if needed. And if you’re willing to travel a bit further Bike Park Wales is not far away.

  • Hay-on-Wye, the famous “town of books” and home to its renowned literary festival, makes for a charming day trip.

  • Builth Wells hosts year-round events at the Royal Welsh Showground, including the famous Royal Welsh Agricultural Show, specialist events, antique fairs and more. See what’s on

  • Play a spot of golf at Cradoc Golf Club, just down the road with stunning views of local landscape and yummy food in the restaurant.
