Merthyr Cynog, Brecon and Builth Wells

Whether you’re here for adventure, scenery, or simply to switch off, our lodges and holiday cottages in mid Wales place you right at the heart of it all. Here are some suggestions for things to do and ways to explore the local area.

Explore Merthyr Cynog

For those looking for a peaceful break there’s plenty to do with your time without even leaving Merthyr Cynog. Ask us and we’ll give you info about walks around the farm, taking in mountains, woodland and stunning views. There’s also a local mountain bike track. And we’re helpfully located at the start of the Epynt Way for some breathtaking walks around the wild and remote Epynt ranges.

Explore Builth Wells / Llanfair-ym-Muallt

The attractive former spa town of Builth Wells is 8 miles away. This hosts the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show every year - a four day event held at its showground, making it a hub for Welsh farming and countryside culture. It's also known as a charming market town on the River Wye, featuring historic shops, plenty of pubs and cafes, and the Wyeside Arts Centre for cinema and theatre performances.

Just a few miles out of town in Cilmeri, you can explore the folklore surrounding Llywelyn ap Gruffudd (1223-1282) - the last prince of an independent Wales before its conquest by Edward I. A granite stone marks the place where he died, while steps nearby lead you to the well where his severed head was said to be washed before it was sent on to Edward I!

Explore Brecon

The historic market town of Brecon is just 10 miles away, with its canal walks, independent shops, local produce, coffee spots and great places to eat. Hire bikes and ride along the peaceful canalside, or head into the hills for unforgettable walks and hikes.

Explore the Brecon Beacons National Park

Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park in South/Mid Wales is a 520-square-mile protected landscape established in 1957, renowned for its dramatic peaks, including the 886 metre high Pen y Fan.

As an International Dark Sky Reserve and home to Fforest Fawr UNESCO Global Geopark, it offers extensive hiking, mountain biking, and waterfalls meaning there are endless opportunities for adventure and exploration. The national park boundary starts around 7 miles away from us.
